Channelled Spirit: Absence & Loss

D3339173-5D27-4CEF-A896-7EF367AE201D

During a recent Spirit Writing Circle, I gave my students words that describe emotions to give to Spirit as a prompt or subject. This lead to the following piece channelled through me that I thought I would share.

” Absent, missing, empty, loss, grief. The family of experience that explores connection, however, fleeting. To truly connect and give freely of Self, one must first experience brief bursts of belonging and bonding. These bursts trigger the diverse layers of emotional yearning and needing that arise when sharing one’s affections, love and indeed actual Self with another living thing. I emphasise “thing”, for in these brief interludes of complex but simple linking the recipient may be animal rather than human. In fact, bonds with animals, and one might conjecture, places too, start the process of “Giving of Self” quite nicely.  For they offer a less complicated relationship, one-sided if you were. As humans, infants in the emotional area, explore euphoria and sorrow, love can and does bring animals; providing a safer learning ground than the muddy and complicated,  and sometimes insane human emotional/love landscape. To appreciate that you have a thing, connection, in this case, you need be able to recognise its presence in your life, Self,  environment e.t.c. Without having experienced its absent, you can not discern and allow the understanding and sensations associated with its presence. Moreover, you can not discern the quality of it either. Insufficient date if you will. The human is not unlike your computers of today. Insufficient data produces incomplete analyses and hence, incomplete understanding and allowance. Death is also a key factor in humans, it is inevitable. Therefore, absents prepares the human mind and heart (figuratively speaking), for that loss. To better facilitate the grieving process. “Better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all” maybe a poetic line but it holds an essential truth within. Without loss, you cannot measure your experience of love. One reality needs the other to create certainty. ”

The channelled piece was signed “Max”  (we know nothing more about him).

Trance Mediumship: Trance Cabinet

There are several photographs on display at The College of Psychic Studies of how the rooms (especially on the top floor) were used in the past; such as Harry Prices’s laboratory.

A student asked me about one of the photographs and what the large curtained off area was for. I explained it was a trance cabinet or a variation of one. This led to the obvious question – ‘What was that and what was it used for?”

A trance cabinet is used with trance and physical mediumship.

What is it?

Literally, a large cabinet that the medium sits in. It can have three sides and a lid with curtains down the front. Or be a corner of a room that is curtained off across the diagonally making an enclosed area (floor to ceiling). A trance cabinet is often painted black with black curtains but historically they were unpainted dark wood and the curtains were mostly burgundy velvet (similar to theatre curtains).

What is it for?

  1. To contain and enhance energy. The cabinet (box) acts as a vessel to hold the energy and as such amplifies it. Over time the cabinet builds more and more energy, holding the trance vibration.
  2. To act as a back backdrop for the audience watching. It is easier to see energy against a very dark or very light background.
  3. Most importantly the cabinet was used to prove physical phenomena was created by Spirit rather than faked. In Victorian times physical mediums were tied to a chair (wrists and ankles) and gagged placed inside the cabinet and the curtain would be drawn. The physical phenomena would then occur outside the cabinet in the room, such as sounds, voices, apparitions. Afterwards, the curtain would be drawn to show the medium was still bound and gagged. One famous incident included the mediums suit jacket being turned around. When he was bound his jacket was on the right way, but afterwards when the curtain was pulled back his jacket was on the wrong way round (buttons at the back) – seemingly taken off him and put back on again by Spirit whilst the curtain was drawn.

Are they still used?

Yes, physical mediumship circles still use them as do trance mediums. They are a wonderful tool when developing as a trance medium even if phenomena is not being produced.

Channelled Spirit: How can we reconcile the death of a loved one?

8CF8DD79-152D-476F-983D-73A0FCB091A4

A channelled message from Spirit, through one of my Spirit Writing students. She asked the question after a recent passing. The second paragraph references the person who passed as “her”, but the guidance is relevant for us all.

Question: How can we reconcile the death of a loved one and trust that all is well?

“Death will come to all at some point. Sometimes it is welcomed, sometimes it is feared. It will come nevertheless. What is death? The loss of physicality. The body dies and decays, and the spirit moves on. Humans mourn the loss of loved ones and less familiar humans. Sadness is a part of life. Loss is part of life. There is gain, and therefore loss is the balance. Balance is the key. You live, therefore, you will also die. But only the physical, substantial flesh dies and withers. The soul lives on and moves into a different realm. Do not mourn the soul, it is reunited with its true state. It does not mourn the loss of its physical framework. This was a vehicle for adventures and learning. Everything progresses, moves on; otherwise, stagnation would occur, and life would petrify.

Do not mourn the loss of your loved one. Celebrate her life and way in which she touched your life. No matter how briefly or intensely her impact, you connected. It is now time to release and disconnect. Memories can be held but gently. Do not suffocate them. Release your tears of both sorrow and of joy. Your meeting was important, and you both learned and gained from it. Time moves on, and goodbyes are in order. Be grateful. Remember with gentleness. Sing of her memory and deeds but do not dwell in the past, it is gone and is behind you. Look forward with gratitude in your heart as well as tears in your eyes. Life is for living and moving forward. The past is gone like a breath of air, fleeting, non-graspable. Do not hold it too tightly, release and let it breathe. Shine a light on it and give it space. Surround it with love and smile. “

Who are you talking to in Spirit?

IMG_2531

If I asked you who you prayed to, you give me a clear and direct answer. But when I ask people who they talk to in Spirit, the answers are mixed, to say the least. Often people are vague about it or give really specific names yet when questioned they don’t always know who they are or why they are talking to them. The answer is usually “I was told to” or “I read it in a book”.

Religion gives you clearly defined deities and structure, prayers to follow or guidelines on how to address your god. But spirituality seems to be a free for all. Ask this being for this or that, or don’t ask them and try these instead. Differing opinions and ideas. So how do you work it out, who do you talk to?

Like religion, it needs belief. Who do you believe in? There is no point talking to a being you don’t really believe in or don’t understand. They have to resonate with you. Some people love the idea of Angels but others don’t, some want E.T and others don’t. Spirit is Spirit. These titles are just descriptions or in some cases labels to help us relate to them. If it sounds fanciful to you, you won’t be able to connect as the critical mind will interfere and so it should.

Spirit step forward in many guises to ensure there is something we can all relate to and believe in. Think of it like going into a shoe shop – which pair are you drawn, do they fit when you try them on, are they comfortable? You won’t leave the shoe shop with any pair the assistant handed you just because they think you should have them, but people do when it comes to talking to spirit.

When you want to talk to spirit start at the beginning – Your Soul. It is, after all, a piece of spirit that is within and its guidance is direct and to the point. It knows more about you and your life than anyone else. Next, talk to your Spirit Guides. There are three who are with you from birth to death – Main Guide, Doorkeeper and Guardian Angel. There’s that Angel word again and it is there for those who believe in Angels more than any other spirit. Your Main Guide oversees your life, supports you and supervises all other spirits who work with you. They have had human experiences so can relate to what you are going through. Your Doorkeeper is about protection, they are your bodyguard; mainly for the unseen and energetic. Your Guardian Angel supports the other two and can do their duties if you only connect to Angels, as well as helping you with spiritual ideas and concepts. Other Spirit Guides come and go throughout your life helping out with particular experiences or things that you do in your life such as healing or mediumship.

If you need something more or different then you have access to the countless other spirit beings that exist. We’re back to the shoe shop again – but this time think of a warehouse full of shoes, how do you find the right one? Firstly, type – court shoe, trainer, boot; then colour, size e.t.c Spirit are no different. Type – Angelic, Ascended Master, Loved One, Communicator, Teacher, Healer and so on. Some of these have had human lives (Ascended Masters and loved ones for instance) and some have not (Angelic beings). Having had a human experience may not be important to you but give it a moments thoughts … would understanding what it is to be human be helpful when it comes to giving you guidance and assistance or not.

Think of it like this – your car has broken down at the side of the road and two people stop to help you – a monk and a mechanic – which are you going to choose? You would thank the monk for stopping but you would ask the mechanic to help. Spirit is no different. Some things suit some beings better than others. For instance, I wouldn’t ask the Angels what was wrong with a car, but I do occasionally ask them to help me find a parking space.

There are lots of books about Angelic beings and Ascended Masters – have a look through them. You don’t need to read them cover to cover, you can use them as a reference and see who you are drawn to. Pick one Spirit being and get to know them. Talk to them, work with them, build a relationship with them. This isn’t networking where you have the names of a lot of people just in case they can one day do something for you. This is more like friendship, real friendship, where you communicate with each other, respect each other and trust each other.

Of course, you can have a relationship with several spirit beings, just like you have lots of friends. And, just like making friends, it takes a little effort but it is well worth it.

The Journey of Choices

IMG_1675

Jacob’s Ladder Mandala

“Happy choices, content decisions. When you invoke, invite, manifest from there you are rewarded with actuality. Sad choices, discordant choices, reap only unhappy outcomes. Manifesting requires purpose, focus, intention. Where there is none, nothing arrives. Are your choices happy? Are you content?

The ladder suggest not. The ladder suggest a struggle. A climb you are facing. If you see yourself in the city below. Hungary to climb to the one above. How can you be content. Success is the ladder to nowhere.

What if you were in the city above. Where would you go then? Where is next? What can be higher? Here is the reign of the ego, the constant climber, always going nowhere. Why not stay on the ladder, neither highest nor lowest? What then? Are you enough?

Arrival at the higher city doesn’t mean you are enough. Only that you have climbed further. Or rushed to the top and are now breathless and uncertain. Life learning is never a race, nor a climb to ascent.

See the ladder instead horizontally, like train tracks. Marking your journey from one city or another. Or indeed, one lesson to another. How much easier the journey would seem. How much less demanding. This is life in flow.

However, you make choices – to stay in one place or lesson, or to journey on. Your soul knows which you need, your ego does not. It will often mislead you. The Angels represent the Spirits who assist you in knowing which you need. Progress or stillness.

Stillness is vital to life, equal to progression. When struggling to prefer try still ness. When the climb is too hard, lay the ladder down. When the journey seems to lonely remember we are with you.

Finally, the circle. The sign that all us balanced. That everything starts and ends. Completion. You will complete what you can, learn what you can. Grow as much as you can. Your soul will rejoice in it all. It will complete the lesson, close the circle, by returning home. The final journey. “

This piece of channelled writing was inspired by the mandala called Jacob’s Ladder. The picture was taken from the book “Mandala Sourcebook” by David Fontana & Lisa Tenzin-Dolma.

It was part of an exercise I gave my spirit writing students, where they randomly choice a mandala and then asked Spirit to write something inspired by the image or elements within. The above piece with written through me, but sadly the Spirit did not sign the piece.

Pineapple: A spiritual perspective

pineapple

I always set my spirit writing students homework, to give them a chance to practice and to challenge them. A recent assignment was to invite a Spirit communicator or Philosopher to step forward and Inspirationally write something using the word PINEAPPLE as the subject or prompt. As you can imagine the students were somewhat taken aback by my choice of word.

In truth, I know that Spirit can take any word and deliver a piece that has a spiritual message in it; you just have to trust that they can and not interfere. And we had some lovely short pieces using the word as a whole or in variations such as apple or pining. But, as it was such an odd word I thought I’d do the exercise as well, and here is Master Chou’s take on Pineapple.

I hope you enjoy it, Sarah

Take the rough skin and note how protective it is. How much care it takes of the soft fruit within. Just as your aura protects you and keeps the softnesses of your soul safely wrapped within. See the flesh as your body – fibrous and malleable, yet also firm. Your physical body is a wonderful thing. Perfectly designed for your world. Now note the pineapples hard inner core that gives the fruit strength and robustness much as your spine does your body. But also this cord represents the column of energy that flows through you aligned to your chakras.

Keeping your balance and solid within the aura. Holding the pieces of you together. Allowing your soul to have a safe harbour within your physical body and this physical world. Lastly, consider the leaves. Spiky and upward. Look at the fruit the right way round and they may reflect your thoughts reaching out to us, up to the heavens. But turn the fruit over and do they now not remind you of your roots into the earth grounding you in this life. For the pineapple is a complex fruit, but so are you. Complex yet simple. Complete yet seeking completion. The pineapple exists to bring joy, so do you.

Channelled Spirit: The Deluded Mind

Mind

When working with my Spirit Writing students I like to set challenging subjects/topics for Spirit to write about. This works on two levels – 1. Taking the student out of their comfort zone. 2. It creates a space for Spirit to speak write about bigger subjects that affect us all.

Writing by Spirit should guide and inform, as well as give us hope and assist our Souls on their paths. Moreover, it can break down ideas, barriers and spark conversation and thought, acting as a catalyst for change.

A recent subject was “The Deluded Mind”; here is what on Spirit wrote, I felt you might like to read it.

Sarah

“Delusion is a rarity in that it only really exists if the person with the delusion recognises it. Without the recognition of that person, the perceived delusion is merely an opinion voiced by another but ultimately it is the ‘deluded’ person’s map of the world. So when is the ‘delusion’ real? Perhaps never. This may be true, and just as true is that everyone is deluded. After all, each person has their own opinion or perspective, and for each opinion or perspective, there may be another to the contrary. Who is right? Who is wrong? What does it matter? What if both realities can co-exist? What if every single reality exists, in some form or another, to some degree or other, creating a mass matrix of complexity and interwoven parts. A plate of spaghetti. The largest ever, without a doubt. But what does it matter?

The plate of spaghetti is there to be consumed, perhaps enjoyed, and no attention is given to the placement or positioning of a specific strand. Really, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. All strands are equal, perhaps not in the location on the plate, but all exist, all were treated the same in terms of preparation, and all are treated the same when it comes to consumption. If ever a particular strand is requiring acknowledgement or recognition above another, it is misplaced. It is just a single strand, comparable to any other. And so it is with opinions, which themselves are the products of minds. All are the same, all are equal, all have a value. Naturally, some minds and their respective opinions are more respected or valued than others because of human constructs which have been created in an attempt to keep the order or promote fairness.

The content then becomes important, as does the context. But the mind, in and of itself, is no better than another. Each serves its purpose. If the mind should start to stray from this tacit idea, or if it begins to consider itself better than another, that is “delusion”. How could it consider itself better to something it doesn’t know, and cannot know: another mind. A mind can only express itself through symbols, through language, but these are overly simplified and do nothing to communicate the true nature of subjective experiences. That is to say that many minds do not even know themselves, so how could they know others, and how would they allow themselves the right or the authority to judge another. Such action is pure arrogance, and arrogance can be seen as a form of delusion. The perception of the world is warped to meet the needs of the person, of the ego.

Arrogance is akin to a sin. It is based on nothing. It is the stuff of magic and illusion, but the latter involves trickery so that something is made to look different, whereas delusion is the belief that something exists when in fact it doesn’t. The absence of something which is vehemently thought to exist. Again, we return to the idea of individual perception, and so a distinction must be made. If something is created out of nothing, from a lie, and is believed in passionately and unwaveringly, that is the delusion. Commonly-found delusions include confidence, competence, love… But by the same token, albeit the other side of it, loneliness, hate, powerlessness… These are no less delusions but are perhaps even more damaging as they leave people disenfranchised. All people have, at some point, created a false story: “daddy doesn’t love me…” etc. They have been based on their subjective interpretation of experience, and whilst some may be true, just as many are the effect of the overactive mind.

All people have done this, thus everyone, at some point, has created a falsehood and lived by it, reinforced it… in other words, all people have been deluded at one point or another. On the one hand, no one mind can judge another so not one mind is deluded. On the other hand, all minds are or have been deluded. Both must be true, or neither are true. The question, again, is what does it matter? Does the question itself come from a deluded mind, and, if not, does the answer?”
