The Journey of Choices

IMG_1675

Jacob’s Ladder Mandala

“Happy choices, content decisions. When you invoke, invite, manifest from there you are rewarded with actuality. Sad choices, discordant choices, reap only unhappy outcomes. Manifesting requires purpose, focus, intention. Where there is none, nothing arrives. Are your choices happy? Are you content?

The ladder suggest not. The ladder suggest a struggle. A climb you are facing. If you see yourself in the city below. Hungary to climb to the one above. How can you be content. Success is the ladder to nowhere.

What if you were in the city above. Where would you go then? Where is next? What can be higher? Here is the reign of the ego, the constant climber, always going nowhere. Why not stay on the ladder, neither highest nor lowest? What then? Are you enough?

Arrival at the higher city doesn’t mean you are enough. Only that you have climbed further. Or rushed to the top and are now breathless and uncertain. Life learning is never a race, nor a climb to ascent.

See the ladder instead horizontally, like train tracks. Marking your journey from one city or another. Or indeed, one lesson to another. How much easier the journey would seem. How much less demanding. This is life in flow.

However, you make choices – to stay in one place or lesson, or to journey on. Your soul knows which you need, your ego does not. It will often mislead you. The Angels represent the Spirits who assist you in knowing which you need. Progress or stillness.

Stillness is vital to life, equal to progression. When struggling to prefer try still ness. When the climb is too hard, lay the ladder down. When the journey seems to lonely remember we are with you.

Finally, the circle. The sign that all us balanced. That everything starts and ends. Completion. You will complete what you can, learn what you can. Grow as much as you can. Your soul will rejoice in it all. It will complete the lesson, close the circle, by returning home. The final journey. “

This piece of channelled writing was inspired by the mandala called Jacob’s Ladder. The picture was taken from the book “Mandala Sourcebook” by David Fontana & Lisa Tenzin-Dolma.

It was part of an exercise I gave my spirit writing students, where they randomly choice a mandala and then asked Spirit to write something inspired by the image or elements within. The above piece with written through me, but sadly the Spirit did not sign the piece.

Pineapple: A spiritual perspective

pineapple

I always set my spirit writing students homework, to give them a chance to practice and to challenge them. A recent assignment was to invite a Spirit communicator or Philosopher to step forward and Inspirationally write something using the word PINEAPPLE as the subject or prompt. As you can imagine the students were somewhat taken aback by my choice of word. In truth, I know that Spirit can take any word and deliver a piece that has a spiritual message in it; you just have to trust that they can and not interfere. And we had some lovely short pieces using the word as a whole or in variations such as apple or pining. But, as it was such an odd word I thought I’d do the exercise as well, and here is Master Chou’s take on Pineapple.

I hope you enjoy it, Sarah

Take the rough skin and note how protective it is. How much care it takes of the soft fruit within. Just as your aura protects you and keeps the softnesses of your soul safely wrapped within. See the flesh as your body – fibrous and malleable, yet also firm. Your physical body is a wonderful thing. Perfectly designed for your world. Now note the pineapples hard inner core that gives the fruit strength and robustness much as your spine does your body. But also this cord represents the column of energy that flows through you aligned to your chakras. Keeping your balance and solidity within the aura. Holding the pieces of you together. Allowing your soul to have a safe harbour within your physical body and this physical world. Lastly consider the leaves. Spiky and upward. Look at the fruit the right way round and they may reflect your thoughts reaching out to us, up to the heavens. But turn the fruit over and do they now not remind you of your roots into the earth grounding you in this life. For the pineapple is a complex fruit, but so are you. Complex yet simple. Complete yet seeking completion. The pineapple exists to bring joy, so do you.

The Deluded Mind (by Spirit)

Mind

Dear Friends,

When working with my Spirit Writing students I like to set challenging subjects / topics for Spirit to write about. This works on two levels – 1. Taking the student out of their comfort zone. 2. It creates a space for Spirit to speak write about bigger subjects that affect us all.

Writing by Spirit should guide and inform, as well as give us hope and assist our souls on their paths. Moreover it can break down ideas, barriers and spark conversation and thought, acting as a catalyst for change.

I recently set the subject of “The Deluded Mind” the piece below was written by Spirit and I thought is was interesting and that you might like to read it.

Sarah

“Delusion is a rarity in that it only really exists if the person with the delusion recognises it. Without the recognition of that person, the perceived delusion is merely an opinion voiced by another but ultimately it is the ‘deluded’ person’s map of the world. So when is the ‘delusion’ real? Perhaps never. This may be true, and just as true is that everyone is deluded. After all, each person has their own opinion or perspective, and for each opinion or perspective, there may be another to the contrary. Who is right? Who is wrong? What does it matter? What if both realities can co-exist? What if every single reality exists, in some form or another, to some degree or other, creating a mass matrix of complexity and interwoven parts. A plate of spaghetti. The largest ever, without doubt. But what does it matter?

The plate of spaghetti is there to be consumed, perhaps enjoyed, and no attention is given to the placement or positioning of a specific strand. Really, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. All strands are equal, perhaps not in location on the plate, but all exist, all were treated the same in terms of preparation, and all are treated the same when it comes to consumption. If ever a particular strand is requiring acknowledgement or recognition above another, it is misplaced. It is just a single strand, comparable to any other. And so it is with opinions, which themselves are the products of minds. All are the same, all are equal, all have a value. Naturally, some minds and their respective opinions are more respected or valued than others because of human constructs which have been created in an attempt to keep order or promote fairness.

The content then becomes important, as does the context. But the mind, in and of itself, is no better than another. Each serves its purpose. If the mind should start to stray from this tacit idea, or if it begins to consider itself better than another, that is delusion. How could it consider itself better to something it doesn’t know, and cannot know: another mind. A mind can only express itself through symbols, through language, but these are overly simplified and do nothing to communicate the true nature of subjective experiences. That is to say that many minds do not even know themselves, so how could they know others, and how would they allow themselves the right or the authority to judge another. Such action is pure arrogance, and arrogance can be seen as a form of delusion. The perception of the world is warped to meet the needs of the person, of the ego.

Arrogance is akin to a sin. It is based on nothing. It is the stuff of magic and illusion, but the latter involves trickery so that something is made to look different, whereas delusion is the belief that something exists when in fact it doesn’t. The absence of something which is vehemently thought to exist. Again, we return to the idea of individual perception, and so a distinction must be made. If something is created out of nothing, from a lie, and is believed in passionately and unwaveringly, that is the delusion. Commonly-found delusions include confidence, competence, love… But by the same token, albeit the other side of it, loneliness, hate, powerlessness… These are no less delusions, but are perhaps even more damaging as they leave people disenfranchised. All people have, at some point, created a false story: “daddy doesn’t love me…” etc. They have been based on their subjective interpretation of experience, and whilst some may be true, just as many are the effect of the overactive mind.

All people have done this, thus everyone, at some point, has created a falsehood and lived by it, reinforced it… in other words, all people have been deluded at one point or another. On the one hand, no one mind can judge another so not one mind is deluded. On the other hand, all minds are or have been deluded. Both must be true, or neither are true. The question, again, is what does it matter? Does the question itself come from a deluded mind, and, if not, does the answer?”

Live it!

8a192-spiral_shell Whilst sitting quietly preparing for my latest Spirit Writing Circle I received the following piece of inspiration from Spirit. I thought it was simple yet beautiful. Hope you enjoy it. Sarah

” Expand your ideas, for in there lies the journey to discovery.

Discover the self and see the vastness within.

Within the one place where everything makes sense.

Sense your true potential and live it.

The Oracle”

Honouring the Sacral Chakra (Channelled by Spirit)

As a teacher it is part of my job to challenge my students, not only in how they think but also in the ways they work with Spirit. Once such challenge is getting them to think outside the box and to stimulate interaction with Spirit that does not engage their thought processes or ego.

Many years ago I came across a second-hnd book called GaiaStar Mandalas by Bonnie Bell and David Todd. The minute I opened the book my mind was full of ideas and ways to use these amazing pictures. Of course, I purchased the book which included page after page of richly coloured stunning mandalas made from natural materials; such as leaves, petals and feathers.

Once home I asked the book for permission to take it apart so I could use each image on its own; I then proceeded to delicately cut the book up using a scalpel. I now use these wonderful images to as inspirations for connection with Spirit and Self, as well as topics and ideas for them to speak or write about.

In a recent automatic writing class I asked my students to work with the images and we got some lovely pieces of writing. Often when my students write I do to – below is the piece Spirit wrote through me inspired the books cover.

Hope you enjoy.

Mandalas

Ecstatic Visions of the Living Earth. By Bonnie Bell and David Todd

” Orange – pulsing life – radiating joy and abundance – strong yet gentle – beating and retreating the playful journey through life.

Beating a path, then retreating to see your creation. Creation and growth. Stimulating. Developing. Transforming. Life has many variations. Many layers and transitions. The sacral chakra holds emotional energy, it speaks the emotive language. Translating that into physical sensations and urges as well as thoughts and ideas.

You are emotional beings. Embrace the idea. Embrace your emotional side and feel the flow of it through your physical body. The shudders that come with laughter and tears. The ripples and butterflies that come with pleasure and love.

Your mind will always aim to translate these sensations, to rationalise and analyse. But do not be lead by that. It is only a variation of the experience. Is is not the whole story.

Emotions do not rule you. Your soul governs your learning and path and the emotions are its tools, theories, concepts, perspective and language. The soul knows how to flow through the emotional landscape. Better than your mind, more clearly than your body. They are both one sided in their view of emotions and applications.

Through the cohesion of all the soul has a rich canvas on which to paint and explore. Which in turn enriches and deepens the learning. Each emotion adding a colour or texture to the piece. The masterpiece that you call your life.

It is an important chakras and colour. Yet you work so little with either. Or so you think. How many sunsets have you watched. All those deep oranges seeping into your energy. How many tears have you shed cleansing your emotional self as it passes through the phases of learning. How many nights spent reviewing your life, letting your mind and ego judge your emotional learning.

You choose so many ways to see yourself. But few honour your emotions. You judge being emotional as weak. We say it is not. We remind you it is powerful, insightful and needed. Your soul is grateful for every emotion experienced and felt. We say to you be the same. Rejoice in them, respect them and appreciate them more. With that comes greater learning and understanding. Not only for your soul but for humanity.

Surrounding you in the warmth of orange. We leave you with deep felt blessings. ”

Madge Gill Medium & Visionary

madge hill 2

Last night I went to a private viewing of the “Madge Gill Medium & Visionary” exhibition at the Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham.

This exhibition is exploring her work and her connection to mediumship. With no training and no aspirations to fame, Madge Gill (1882 – 1961) produced thousands of secretive ink drawings during her lifetime. Her work remains an enigma: is it true she was inspired by an ethereal spirit guide? Was she genuinely in touch with ‘the beyond’, or was art-making a form of self therapy?

The exhibition includes many of her pen and ink drawings including “The Crucifixion of the Soul” which is 25 ft long and acts as the focal point for the show. Her work contains the faces of women and intricate designs and patterns, they have a haunting quality about them.

madge figure.preview

Madge first mentioned her spirit guide – Myrninerest in about 1920 and in the 1930’s had a reputation as a medium and conducted seances. The exhibition also has pieces of the “automatic writing” that she produced. The College of Psychic Studies has also loaned several items to the exhibition which includes an automatic writing slate, seance trumpet and drawings by Georgiana Houghton. The College has also loans one of Ethel Le Rossignol paintings that is usually on display at the college.

The exhibition makes you ask the question – was she inspired by Spirit? We may never know for sure. I am seen similar designs being drawn by students when they do inspiration or automatic writing.

The Gallery kindly invited me to run an introductory workshop on “Inspirational Writing” to accompany the exhibition and give people a chance to connect to Spirit for themselves and see what happens. The workshop is also part of the Richmond Literary Festival. It will be interesting to see what experiences people have as Spirit draw close in such a beautiful place, surrounded by energy of Madge’s drawings.

Trance Mediumship Tip: Breathe

Breathe

I am often asked “what can I do to prepare for trance mediumship?”, many assume meditation is a good practice but actually that is not often the case. A better place to start is with the breath. Spirit use the breath as a conduit and support structure when they are blending with medium. If the breath is short and shallow, the blending will be also. Learning how to breathe deeply using the diaphragm and the full capacity of your lungs will enable Spirit to blend deeper with you and stay longer.

A lot of the work now is channelling rather than trance as this is often easier for Spirit and the vessel but it does have its downsides. Trance work has less room for interference but also requires more training and dedication to the craft. No short cuts or instant options here. Preparation of self is vital and being one with your own body and breath is a great beginning.

Practicing deep breathing will create a better place for Spirit as well as a more secure place for yourself as is centres you and creates calmness. Try to breath in your through your nose and out through your mouth – this helps the trance work later on when Spirit try to speak.

Finally deep breathing helps support your voice which is an essential part of trance mediumship.
