The Deluded Mind (by Spirit)

Mind

Dear Friends,

When working with my Spirit Writing students I like to set challenging subjects / topics for Spirit to write about. This works on two levels – 1. Taking the student out of their comfort zone. 2. It creates a space for Spirit to speak write about bigger subjects that affect us all.

Writing by Spirit should guide and inform, as well as give us hope and assist our souls on their paths. Moreover it can break down ideas, barriers and spark conversation and thought, acting as a catalyst for change.

I recently set the subject of “The Deluded Mind” the piece below was written by Spirit and I thought is was interesting and that you might like to read it.

“Delusion is a rarity in that it only really exists if the person with the delusion recognises it. Without the recognition of that person, the perceived delusion is merely an opinion voiced by another but ultimately it is the ‘deluded’ person’s map of the world. So when is the ‘delusion’ real? Perhaps never. This may be true, and just as true is that everyone is deluded. After all, each person has their own opinion or perspective, and for each opinion or perspective, there may be another to the contrary. Who is right? Who is wrong? What does it matter? What if both realities can co-exist? What if every single reality exists, in some form or another, to some degree or other, creating a mass matrix of complexity and interwoven parts. A plate of spaghetti. The largest ever, without doubt. But what does it matter?

The plate of spaghetti is there to be consumed, perhaps enjoyed, and no attention is given to the placement or positioning of a specific strand. Really, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. All strands are equal, perhaps not in location on the plate, but all exist, all were treated the same in terms of preparation, and all are treated the same when it comes to consumption. If ever a particular strand is requiring acknowledgement or recognition above another, it is misplaced. It is just a single strand, comparable to any other. And so it is with opinions, which themselves are the products of minds. All are the same, all are equal, all have a value. Naturally, some minds and their respective opinions are more respected or valued than others because of human constructs which have been created in an attempt to keep order or promote fairness.

The content then becomes important, as does the context. But the mind, in and of itself, is no better than another. Each serves its purpose. If the mind should start to stray from this tacit idea, or if it begins to consider itself better than another, that is delusion. How could it consider itself better to something it doesn’t know, and cannot know: another mind. A mind can only express itself through symbols, through language, but these are overly simplified and do nothing to communicate the true nature of subjective experiences. That is to say that many minds do not even know themselves, so how could they know others, and how would they allow themselves the right or the authority to judge another. Such action is pure arrogance, and arrogance can be seen as a form of delusion. The perception of the world is warped to meet the needs of the person, of the ego.

Arrogance is akin to a sin. It is based on nothing. It is the stuff of magic and illusion, but the latter involves trickery so that something is made to look different, whereas delusion is the belief that something exists when in fact it doesn’t. The absence of something which is vehemently thought to exist. Again, we return to the idea of individual perception, and so a distinction must be made. If something is created out of nothing, from a lie, and is believed in passionately and unwaveringly, that is the delusion. Commonly-found delusions include confidence, competence, love… But by the same token, albeit the other side of it, loneliness, hate, powerlessness… These are no less delusions, but are perhaps even more damaging as they leave people disenfranchised. All people have, at some point, created a false story: “daddy doesn’t love me…” etc. They have been based on their subjective interpretation of experience, and whilst some may be true, just as many are the effect of the overactive mind.

All people have done this, thus everyone, at some point, has created a falsehood and lived by it, reinforced it… in other words, all people have been deluded at one point or another. On the one hand, no one mind can judge another so not one mind is deluded. On the other hand, all minds are or have been deluded. Both must be true, or neither are true. The question, again, is what does it matter? Does the question itself come from a deluded mind, and, if not, does the answer?”

To prepare or not to prepare for Trance

Tealights

Being a channel for Spirit is a gift. However, it also needs to be taken seriously and respected as you would any professional job. This starts with training and dedication but also your mind-set as to how you see yourself within the work.

One thing that fascinates me is the odd mixture of approaches when it comes to preparing yourself to work in an altered state. It ranges from the INSTANT FIXERS who basically close their eyes and Ta Da; to the other end of the scale with RITUAL DEVOTEES who have so many rituals to do I am amazed they can remember them all.

Society is pushing more and more for the INSTANT, QUICK, IMMEDIATE but that should not apply here. Working with Spirit needs time and deserves time. Not only for Spirit but for yourself. It is an act of respect. However, the other end of the scale with all the rituals seems to stem from a place of fear or habit. If they haven’t done everything in the same order it won’t work. This shows a lack of trust in themselves, spirit and process itself. But both of these extremes are learnt so teachers need to be aware that they can pass on their anxieties to students as well as their complacency.

When you work professionally as a channel you refine the process each time you work, streamlining it and challenging it to ensure you get the best working conditions. But I would not teach that refined method to my students; they need to build their own. As a teacher it is important that I give my students the understand of the mechanics, ethics and purpose so they can carve their own path.

I love to cook. Cooking requires method, precision, science and creativity. Once you understand how eggs cook you can then create many wonderful dishes with them. It is about how you choose to put the ingredients together. But you need to know what the ingredients are first.

With channelling and trance mediumship it is about understanding the energetic reality of the exchange and the nature of Spirit. Building a safe foundation from which you can safely step aside, handing your body and mind over to a Spirit Being. Here is where your preparation is key. Getting yourself into the right space – both figuratively and literally.

I was once asked to channel something during a meeting in a busy cafe; clearly they had no concept of what trance mediumship was. But the look on their face when I said no was priceless. They had no understanding at all about how ridiculous their request was. They were of the INSTANTANEOUS group and were use to people performing for them.  Moreover, I suspect they were not used to people saying no.

Being in the right space includes location. In that instance I was not in a safe or practical place to work and would have been left myself very vulnerable had I played their game and performed. I would also have been doing Spirit a disservice. There is a time and place for these things. We need to take the SPECTACULAR out of the vocabulary and put this work back into the right vibration and intention.

Spirit do not step forward to speak for your amusement, they do so to convey truly important information and healing to assist us in growing and being all that we can be. The gift is in the message not in being chosen to deliver it. We are chosen to act as channels as part of our own learning about responsibility and balancing ego. The notion of gift can inflate or suppress an out of balance ego.

Training can only take you so far, the rest of the way is up to you and your own personal development and duty of care to yourself. I hold the work in my hands as a precious thing and as such do not want to squander it but that can also lead to suffocating it – I am mindful of creating a balance. A point of centred harmony.

Preparation should be approached in the same way – what do I need and what do Spirit need. And, above all remember not to become a slave to it; preparation should not be control – you should. The INSTANT verses the overly RITUAL are only extremes – aim always to walk the middle path; that is the balanced road and the true path.

Looking deeply into the depth of self – Automatic Writing Piece

Window to the soul

At the weekend I ran my monthly writing group where we practice Inspirational and Automatic Writing, and I wanted to share a couple of pieces that were written with you.

Today, is a piece I did that I find interesting due to its format and flow; it is quite different to other pieces I have done. One of the group mentioned it reminded her of a Greek Chorus. Here it is; there will be a piece done by a member of the group next week.

Hope you enjoy this.

Sarah

Fortitude is the way forward
Solace is the way back
Joy is the turning point
And grace the destination

Travel keenly, travel well
The road of many paths
For there you’ll find the reservoir
Of what lies within

Within the Soul of man
The hidden place
Is all the truth you need
The answers and the questions

Of what you seek and need
The Soul is but a vessel
True and sure and safe
For holding that most sacred

Securely in place
Within is all you need
Within is all the knowledge
Seek not without or worldly

For nothing holds the truth for you
But the vessel, the Soul
The reservoir of knowing
The cup of life, journey and end

For the end is surely the beginning
The end is also the middle
The eternal dance, the circle, the spin
The way to exist with all

The all the everything
Seek only the answer you need
Seek only to be true to you
For you, Soul and all are everything

Be not afraid of what you may find
For it is only harmonious and peaceful
Within the true self
Within is peace, within is love

Spring Equinox

IMG_0112

Eostra – the spring equinox marks the beginning of the renewal, the start of natures cycle into growth. With spring comes new opportunities, challenges, offerings – nature begins to blossom, awaken and enliven. As this day unfolds the energy of nature is drawing all life into the possibilities of new.

Take a moment to sit and ask Mother Earth to join you. Feel her warmth surrounding you, her vibration is tangible and pulsating as she is the Spirit within our world. She is also the Great Mother so steps forward with unconditional love and a desire to nurture. Mother Earth can help you prepare for something new, she can help you open your heart and minds to a new opportunity. Ask for her guidance and support in creating something new in your life. Allow her inspiration to fill you and know she will stand by you on this journey.

To mark the day light a candle in her honour and give thanks to nature by leaving an offering – some seeds for the birds, planting a bulb, walking in a park observing her beauty – find you own way to celebrate the wonder of the natural world. Mother Earth will be touched by your act however big or small, it is truly the thought that counts.

Shh! Quiet Please!

Silence Please

Quiet Please

Trance mediumship has lots of obstacles from your ego through to being detached; but one of the hardest for students in the beginning is being distracted.  Usually the distraction comes in the form of NOISE.  I have had students comment that everyone was breathing too loud or they couldn’t concentrate when others where speaking and so on.  This has to do with one of the interesting aspects of channelling and trance, as you develop the blending with Spirit you get hypersensitive.  Things sound ten times louder than they are, even smells can be more acute.

This is simply your mind and senses trying to compensate for the alter state you are trying to create.  Much the same as with trying to meditate in silence your mind will suddenly start thinking random things or you will get an itch somewhere strange like your big toe.  It is simply part of our survival mechanism and it takes time to overcome.   Yes, it is our old friend TRUST again but this time it is about trusting yourself; knowing that you are safe.

I always encourage my students to work through the noise barrier because the real world, outside the classroom, is VERY NOISY.  A hundred plus years ago if you asked for silence you actually got it.  But today our version of silence often has a background noise that is 80-100 decibels in cities. I gave a trance lecture on Tuesday night – “Evolving your Energy” –  where Spirit stepped forward to speak about this dynamic subject to a background noise of roadworks right outside the window – and they were very loud.  Without a training in getting past noise it would have been impossible to enter the altered state.  Even the stage I was sat on was vibrating from the sound; but this is real life and real circumstances.

For Spirit to have a chance to talk to you as they wish to trance mediums and channels need to learn to work in less rarified locations and settings.  Would I love absolute silence, of course, do I ever expect it, absolutely not. As a channel it is my job not to be distracted, but to relax and let go regardless – something I aim to do to the best of my abilities.

So if you are learning about channelling and trance and someone is making noise see it as a gift not a nuisance.

Note: – Should you be interested in the content of Spirit’s lecture on “Evolving your Energy” is was recorded and will be available for download from my website – http://www.voicesofspirit.co.uk – next week (for a small fee).

History or His Story?

When viewing your life be careful of looking back to often. History is not always an accurate depiction of what occur; it is always coloured by the views, beliefs or agenda of the writer and rememberer. History is very much the authors own story of those events as your life is when you review the past. Each time you look backwards you see it differently, but not necessarily honestly.

Your past is simply that – PAST. What matters is the NOW and TOMORROW. Those are things you can shape by what you believe at this moment. Looking back distracts you, confuses you and can leave you stuck. However, looking forward can free you and enlighten you; of course it can also frighten you. Do not allow fear to stand in your way or make you look over your shoulder all the time. Looking ahead or looking inward are where the answers are.

Part of knowing your inner compass is understanding what direction is about. It is not there to judge you; it is merely there to indicate what you have achieved. Place yourself at the centre of the compass facing NORTH – South is then your past and everything you have learnt. North is your future and everything more you will learn and achieve. East & West represent different aspects of who you are at this moment; your balance between feminine & masculine, physical & spiritual and creative & logical.

Your past is going no where, your future is going everywhere. Be creative and work with your compass, explore the different directions if you wish but do so to know yourself not to judge yourself, there is a difference. Remember, if you are standing in the centre of your compass all directions are possible; however, if you are standing to far in any one direction – it is time to move.

Inner Compass

The Inner Compass is gathering some momentum and our first event is on Saturday.

We have also started a blog for the Inner Compass at innercompasscommunity.wordpress.com – come along and post some thoughts.

We want it to me a place to share as well as a place to learn.

Hope to see you there.
