The Deluded Mind (by Spirit)

Mind

Dear Friends,

When working with my Spirit Writing students I like to set challenging subjects / topics for Spirit to write about. This works on two levels – 1. Taking the student out of their comfort zone. 2. It creates a space for Spirit to speak write about bigger subjects that affect us all.

Writing by Spirit should guide and inform, as well as give us hope and assist our souls on their paths. Moreover it can break down ideas, barriers and spark conversation and thought, acting as a catalyst for change.

I recently set the subject of “The Deluded Mind” the piece below was written by Spirit and I thought is was interesting and that you might like to read it.

Sarah

“Delusion is a rarity in that it only really exists if the person with the delusion recognises it. Without the recognition of that person, the perceived delusion is merely an opinion voiced by another but ultimately it is the ‘deluded’ person’s map of the world. So when is the ‘delusion’ real? Perhaps never. This may be true, and just as true is that everyone is deluded. After all, each person has their own opinion or perspective, and for each opinion or perspective, there may be another to the contrary. Who is right? Who is wrong? What does it matter? What if both realities can co-exist? What if every single reality exists, in some form or another, to some degree or other, creating a mass matrix of complexity and interwoven parts. A plate of spaghetti. The largest ever, without doubt. But what does it matter?

The plate of spaghetti is there to be consumed, perhaps enjoyed, and no attention is given to the placement or positioning of a specific strand. Really, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. All strands are equal, perhaps not in location on the plate, but all exist, all were treated the same in terms of preparation, and all are treated the same when it comes to consumption. If ever a particular strand is requiring acknowledgement or recognition above another, it is misplaced. It is just a single strand, comparable to any other. And so it is with opinions, which themselves are the products of minds. All are the same, all are equal, all have a value. Naturally, some minds and their respective opinions are more respected or valued than others because of human constructs which have been created in an attempt to keep order or promote fairness.

The content then becomes important, as does the context. But the mind, in and of itself, is no better than another. Each serves its purpose. If the mind should start to stray from this tacit idea, or if it begins to consider itself better than another, that is delusion. How could it consider itself better to something it doesn’t know, and cannot know: another mind. A mind can only express itself through symbols, through language, but these are overly simplified and do nothing to communicate the true nature of subjective experiences. That is to say that many minds do not even know themselves, so how could they know others, and how would they allow themselves the right or the authority to judge another. Such action is pure arrogance, and arrogance can be seen as a form of delusion. The perception of the world is warped to meet the needs of the person, of the ego.

Arrogance is akin to a sin. It is based on nothing. It is the stuff of magic and illusion, but the latter involves trickery so that something is made to look different, whereas delusion is the belief that something exists when in fact it doesn’t. The absence of something which is vehemently thought to exist. Again, we return to the idea of individual perception, and so a distinction must be made. If something is created out of nothing, from a lie, and is believed in passionately and unwaveringly, that is the delusion. Commonly-found delusions include confidence, competence, love… But by the same token, albeit the other side of it, loneliness, hate, powerlessness… These are no less delusions, but are perhaps even more damaging as they leave people disenfranchised. All people have, at some point, created a false story: “daddy doesn’t love me…” etc. They have been based on their subjective interpretation of experience, and whilst some may be true, just as many are the effect of the overactive mind.

All people have done this, thus everyone, at some point, has created a falsehood and lived by it, reinforced it… in other words, all people have been deluded at one point or another. On the one hand, no one mind can judge another so not one mind is deluded. On the other hand, all minds are or have been deluded. Both must be true, or neither are true. The question, again, is what does it matter? Does the question itself come from a deluded mind, and, if not, does the answer?”

To prepare or not to prepare for Trance

Tealights

Being a channel for Spirit is a gift. However, it also needs to be taken seriously and respected as you would any professional job. This starts with training and dedication but also your mind-set as to how you see yourself within the work.

One thing that fascinates me is the odd mixture of approaches when it comes to preparing yourself to work in an altered state. It ranges from the INSTANT FIXERS who basically close their eyes and Ta Da; to the other end of the scale with RITUAL DEVOTEES who have so many rituals to do I am amazed they can remember them all.

Society is pushing more and more for the INSTANT, QUICK, IMMEDIATE but that should not apply here. Working with Spirit needs time and deserves time. Not only for Spirit but for yourself. It is an act of respect. However, the other end of the scale with all the rituals seems to stem from a place of fear or habit. If they haven’t done everything in the same order it won’t work. This shows a lack of trust in themselves, spirit and process itself. But both of these extremes are learnt so teachers need to be aware that they can pass on their anxieties to students as well as their complacency.

When you work professionally as a channel you refine the process each time you work, streamlining it and challenging it to ensure you get the best working conditions. But I would not teach that refined method to my students; they need to build their own. As a teacher it is important that I give my students the understand of the mechanics, ethics and purpose so they can carve their own path.

I love to cook. Cooking requires method, precision, science and creativity. Once you understand how eggs cook you can then create many wonderful dishes with them. It is about how you choose to put the ingredients together. But you need to know what the ingredients are first.

With channelling and trance mediumship it is about understanding the energetic reality of the exchange and the nature of Spirit. Building a safe foundation from which you can safely step aside, handing your body and mind over to a Spirit Being. Here is where your preparation is key. Getting yourself into the right space – both figuratively and literally.

I was once asked to channel something during a meeting in a busy cafe; clearly they had no concept of what trance mediumship was. But the look on their face when I said no was priceless. They had no understanding at all about how ridiculous their request was. They were of the INSTANTANEOUS group and were use to people performing for them.  Moreover, I suspect they were not used to people saying no.

Being in the right space includes location. In that instance I was not in a safe or practical place to work and would have been left myself very vulnerable had I played their game and performed. I would also have been doing Spirit a disservice. There is a time and place for these things. We need to take the SPECTACULAR out of the vocabulary and put this work back into the right vibration and intention.

Spirit do not step forward to speak for your amusement, they do so to convey truly important information and healing to assist us in growing and being all that we can be. The gift is in the message not in being chosen to deliver it. We are chosen to act as channels as part of our own learning about responsibility and balancing ego. The notion of gift can inflate or suppress an out of balance ego.

Training can only take you so far, the rest of the way is up to you and your own personal development and duty of care to yourself. I hold the work in my hands as a precious thing and as such do not want to squander it but that can also lead to suffocating it – I am mindful of creating a balance. A point of centred harmony.

Preparation should be approached in the same way – what do I need and what do Spirit need. And, above all remember not to become a slave to it; preparation should not be control – you should. The INSTANT verses the overly RITUAL are only extremes – aim always to walk the middle path; that is the balanced road and the true path.

Healing – A Piece of Spirit Writing

saint-francis-of-assisi

Here is another piece of writing by one of my Inspirational & Automatic Writing students. The topic given to Spirit was “Healing” and the student felt drawn to ask St Francis of Assisi to step forward and write. This is what he wrote – hope you enjoy it.  Sarah

Healing – with St Francis of Assisi

There are many forms of healing for there are many different kinds of injury needing to be healed. Most obvious, in human terms, is the art of the physician, where God-given intelligence enables him or her to diagnose a problem with the physical body or the mental wellness of the human and to prescribe treatments to cure or alleviate the problem.

Much progress has been made on a physical level with medicine but many challenges still remain, for the human body is a complex and delicate machine. Human life is fragile.  Still, not all ills can be cured, not all damages mended.  The fragility of human life renders it all the more precious.

Less progress has been made in terms of mental health.  Here, man’s comfort with the physical, his focus on all things scientific, is not so much help as hindrance – for he is less likely to address the emotional, the spiritual, with success if he is mired in a world of membranes and chemicals.

There is some helpful crossing over between the two approaches – the maturing world of physical medicine and the emerging one of emotional medicine – in the area known as alternative medicine. Here, energetic therapies such as Reiki cross the barrier between the physical and the emotional. For this is healing which is non-specific in its creation and which flows to where it is most needed, taking the form in which it will be most effective. These forms of healing hold the clue for the progression of human medicine.

In your future, therapies will arise that are almost beyond current comprehension. Non-specific growing of human matter and the creation of chemical substances that will transform into what is needed by the body; the control of natural energies that will flow to where they are needed and effect the transformation – the cure – of their own accord.

But perfect health throughout a human life is not, nor never will be, possible, for the vehicle is built to have a limited life span. Human life is intended to be brief, for it is a learning period. And as you all know from your schooling, the best lessons are short, intense and interactive.  If they go on too long, if interest and attention is lost, then learning ceases to happen.

These, then, are the various methods currently employed, and those of the future that will be employed, in the laying on of hands – whether surgically, energetically, or chemically – to heal the human body or mind.

Now let us address healing in a broader sense, for it is not always doctoring which is of the greatest value. Here, let us bring to mind the healing power of an embrace, of a smile, of a few words kindly spoken or written.

One of the greatest gifts bestowed on anyone having a human experience is that he or she is sharing that life with others. You are not alone. There are others around you who share similar challenges, experiences, feelings.

And the greatest sources of healing, the most effective types of healing, are not always the most obvious ones. Sometimes a physical injury is not fixable. Sometimes an illness is not curable. Does this mean that no form of healing is effective? No. For is not the comfort of a loved one’s presence a boon, even when your body is beyond repair? Are not words of comfort or love, spoken softly, exactly what is needed when one feels beyond hope?  Emotional healing goes far beyond the physical body. And when the physical body cannot be healed, emotional healing is even more necessary.

In your search for the next wonder drug, the next surgical technique, the next gene therapy, do not forget the power of a loving embrace.  Do not forget the power of sincere words.  Open your hearts to what it means to be in need of healing.  Share your shared life.  The injuries to others are not always visible, the life that most needs healing is not always visibly blighted.  Sometimes those most in need of healing appear to others to be living a charmed or perfect life.

This is where a healer’s senses go beyond those known to conventional medicine.  This is where the healer that exists in every human can emerge and perform a miracle.  For every one of you can heal.  Every one of you can perform miracles daily.  It does not require a surgeon’s training or a psychiatrist’s learning.  It does not even require an alternative practitioner’s years of study.  All it requires is an open heart, a connectedness to your soul. And then, in tune with yourself, you are also in tune with others.  Then in your openness you can feel the other’s need on an instinctive level.

A kind word as you pass in a doorway, a smile to a stranger as you travel to work, a hand on a shoulder, an embrace at the end of a long day, fingers smoothing hair across a furrowed brow, a hand held. A few well-chosen words:  I love you, I am sorry, may I help, you are not alone, I am here.  These small things are the currency of healing, for all healing begins with connectedness and willingness to share. Sometimes the sharing means taking – sharing a burden for example – and sometimes it means giving, perhaps energy or attention or physical support. Give and take, connectedness.  This is where healing begins and where it ends.

In the centre there is medicine and science and there are developments to come in all these areas. But what will never change is the attendant need for the small healings of everyday life. For, given in enough quality and quantity, they themselves can prevent many greater ills from occurring.

And so I leave you with this thought:  do not leave healing solely to the physicians, eminent and admirable as they are.  Do not leave it even to those who assign themselves as healers, gifted and generous as they are.  Determine, instead, to be a healer yourself, for that is your gift as a human being.

Bring healing to your words and touch, and empathy to all your relationships, every day.  Begin with your relationship with yourself.  Be compassionate with your self.  Do not criticise, but support your self with love and praise, with kind words at the end of a challenging day.  Tell your self you are beautiful, that you are strong, that this too shall pass. Then do the same for those you care for most – and then for those whose lives are touched by yours even in the most fleeting of moments.

Be a ripple in the current that runs through the world, connecting each living thing to another and another. Heal and be healed in the simplest and most fundamental of ways: be kind to one another.

Who’s Speaking

Doorkeeper

When working with Spirit in an altered state it is important to know “Who is speaking to you and through you”. It’s interesting that students often doubt that it is Spirit and not their mind more than they worry about who the Spirit is and is their intention right. Working in an altered state is a wonderful tool for Spirit communication but as the vessel you are responsible for the what is said – so be sure about who is saying it.

Now that doesn’t mean what is their name as Spirit generally only use names to make things easier for us. But you should be certain that they are Spirit and what their agenda or purpose is. Students who come to trance training have often missed out on building a relationship with their Guides. This is vital to working safely and responsibly. They are their to support you, protect you and guide you.

We are always aiming to be a clear channel for Spirit and that requires us to reflect on our intentions, expectations and beliefs with regard to Spirit (as I have written about before). Having a good relationship with your own Guides gives you perspective and a foundation on which to build a relationship with a Spirit Communicator. Your first step should be your Doorkeeper – they are your bodyguard/protector from the unseen or energetic.

Having clear boundaries with your Doorkeeper about what you will and won’t accept, and, who can and can’t step forward gives your connection to Spirit a formality that is needed for professional work. Remember you can always change the boundaries later as you become more comfortable with the work and Spirit. However, if you have no boundaries any energy can approach you and claim to be Spirit even when they are not.

Be clear about what you are allowing and why, don’t be fooled by flattery and glorification – Spirit will speak to your soul needs not your ego. Get to know your own Guides, especially your Doorkeeper and have a clear sense of how Spirit sound and their behaviour towards you and others. If you have doubts act on them, get advice from a professional and challenge Spirit yourself.

They need to earn your trust as much as you need to earn theirs. Your Doorkeeper is your best ally, keeping you safe as best they can. Remember to give them permission to do more and ask for their protection especially when working with Spirit. Be responsible. (If you do not believe that there is anything that you need to protect yourself from, then that belief acts as your protection.) Protection is not only from negative forces it is also from influences that are not for your highest good.

Get to know your Guides, your trance work will be better for it.

Trance Mediumship: Expectations

IMG_0269

Working as a trance medium is not an easy path to follow as there are many who do not believe in spirit communication. Harder still are those who do believe except for trance work – this they believe is simply the mind and ego of the medium and not spirit. They forget that working in an altered state was where it all started.

However, they also have a point. There are those who say they are working in trance bringing through spirit who are in fact bringing through their own ego or subconscious mind. Trance is not immune to faking, whether that is being consciously done or not. The reality is that philosophy is easy to manufacture from the human mind without there being any spirit involvement.

Once the ego has got involved it is hard to get it out-of-the-way. This is why training is so important. If you are thinking about developing as a trance medium then be mindful or your mind. We all have expectations, whether we are aware of them or not; experiences in your life colour what you do, think and feel. It is important to come to trance work with a knowing of your expectations and ideally clear of them with regard to spirit communication.

What I mean by expectations are – how spirit speak, what they might talk about, who you want to work with, what you want to do with the trance work and so on. All of these ideas can be used by your ego and subconscious mind to manufacture what you expect to happen. This is why a good teacher, sitters and/or fellow students is important. We all need someone to reflect back to us what we are doing to ensure it is real. Those around you watching you work can heighten the expectation and feed the fantasy if they are not grounded and aware of their own ideas and beliefs. They can in effect direct your work without being aware they are doing it.

Be mindful. Ask yourself why you are embarking on this path. Do you know yourself? Do you know your own beliefs and expectations surrounding the work of spirit? Spirit needs us to be clear channels – clear of expectations with a balanced ego, knowing of self and centred energy. Once you have that the connection is amazing and the communication will shine. Don’t fall foul of someone else’s fantasy, know in your own heart this is for you and allow your soul to be your guide.

Your Choice

EXCITING NEWS !

A dear friend and student of mine has had a book published. What’s more Master Chou has written the foreword.

The book is called “Your Choice” and John has spent years researching and writing this book.

Your Choice‘ is the ultimate guide to help explore who we are, why we are here and why our lives’ play out the way they do. Energy and the quantum world are used to upgrade our understanding of what relationships (family, social and work), abundance of all kinds, leadership, personal development, health and happiness are really about.

"Your Choice" by John Leckie

I personally have great pleasure in mentioning this book as Master Chou helped John with his research; over the last few years they have had many long conversations about consciousness, the souls plan and quantum mechanics. Chou’s breadth and depth of knowledge sometimes even leaves me speechless and John really put him through his paces. Who knew that Chou knew anything about Spring Theory!

The book is available via The Book Depository click here to buy your copy.

Trance mediumship offers an opportunity to really test the limits and potential of Spirit Communication and what can be brought forward to help an individual or humanity; it is a precious gift.
